Overview
Everest High Passes Trek is an exhilarating adventure in the Himalayas of Nepal that includes trekking on popular Everest trails while also discovering unique gems of the Khumbu region. On our trekking adventure, we cross three high passes in the Everest region - Kongma La Pass (5,535/18,159ft), Cho La Pass (5420m/17,782ft) and Renjo La Pass (5,340m/17,520ft) and set foot on the Everest base camp, climb Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri; and tour Gokyo Lakes. This route also introduces trekkers to the remote and untouched Nangpa La Valley, the Sherpa village of Marlung and the monastery village of Thame. Everest High Passes Trek is an ideal choice for a true adventure seeker looking for a challenging trek in the Everest region of Nepal which also involves crossing high mountain passes.
Itinerary
You will be met by our representative outside the arrival area with your name. He will welcome us then drive us to our hotel in Thamel. On arrival at the hotel, we will be given our room keys and we take our luggage to our rooms and return to the lobby for a quick briefing and you will receive your duffel bag, sleeping bag and down jacket. Thereafter free to roam around in the streets of Thamel. It is advised that we have our dinner in the BLACK OLIVE RESTAURANT.
Overnight: Hotel Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerWe shall fly to Lukla which will be a great experience. The flight will be about 40 minutes. On arrival we shall meet our trek staff, mules and porters. Our duffel bags will be carried by the porters. Nearly 3 hours walk in the beautiful Sherpa Land we shall come to a suspension bridge and we are now in Phakding.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerWe trek along the west bank of the River and just before Monjo will cross the River by a long suspension bridge and then reach Monjo where is the National Park Checkpost. After permit formalities, we descend to another long bridge and have lunch at Jorsale then climb up to Namche, the legendary Sherpa capital.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerToday is the acclimatization Day. Namche is an ancient marketplace where goods from as far away as Tibet were and still are traded. Namche today boosts a lot of lodges, cafes, bars and souvenirs shops. It is an ideal place to spend the rest day, acclimatization to the new altitude before heading towards Fortse. We will hike up to Everest View Hotel returning through Khumjung back to Namche. In the afternoon explore Sherpa Museum and explore the local market of Namche Buzaar.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerFrom our hotel in Namche, we climb up to the Gompa and pick up a trail to follow the Bhotekoshi River through the villages of Phunte, Thamo, Thomde and Somde. The walk is through woods of oak, birch and juniper. We also pass several impressive mani-walls built from tablets of stones intricately carved with Buddhist prayers in Tibetan characters. After about 4 hours of walking we reach a suspension bridge across the river and the other side of the trail we climb to Thame. This is the junction of trails from Rolwaling Valley across the Tesi Lapcha and a trail from Nangpa-La. SThese valleys has high profile of mountaineers and have set records on climbing histories since first successful ascent to Mt. Everest by late Tenzing Norgay to Appa Sherpa who climbed Everst 21 times.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerToday we follow the trade route towards Nangpa-La and stop at Lungden for the night. It is a short day and the trek will be for 4 hours.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerToday we will be able to hike up the Bhotekoshi Valley as far as the Tea Houses at Arye or maybe a little bit higher towards the glacier from Nangpa-La. This is an excellent acclimatization for us. Then we return to our lodge in Lungden.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerWe make an early start at 3 a.m. today. The ascent from Lungden to the Renjola is long and demanding, it is one of the most strenuous stages of the entire tour. Make sure you have packed enough to drink, and allow plenty of time for the ascent. The Renjola pass is not difficult, but it can become dangerous in bad weather especially when it snows. Your Sherpa guide shall advice. The ascent starts by walking a long mountain slope. After crossing the Renjo Khola you scale a short, steep ridge to the first high plateau. The next part is more moderate, leading over wide Yak pastures and past little lakes onto higher levels of terrain finally, once again it gets steeper, taking you upto the hidden Angladumba Tsho Mountain Lake, from where the character of trail changes dramatically, now it is time to scale a steep cliff steps until you reach the saddle the Renjola (5420 m). The pass is festooned with prayer flags and from this high pass we enjoy the incredible views of Majestic Everest, Nupse, Lhotse, Makalu and many more gigantic Himalayan peaks including Cho-Oyu above 8000m very close by which really breathtaking. We descend all the way to Dudh Pokhari and reach our lodge at Gokyo.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerVery early In the morning we shall climb to the Gokyo-RI (5357m). The climb will take about 3 hrs and the return about 1 hr. From Gokyo-Ri we shall be able to see Choyo, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and at far distance Kanchunjunga as well. After breakfast we shall cross the Ngozumba glacier and reach Thagnag for the night.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerToday we have a very early start 3AM. First of all walk up the valley then across the boulder field and steep climb to the pass. From the pass we will experience great view of Amadablam. From here straight forward to glacier then again negotiate the boulder strewn valley to descend to the grazing pastures of Yak. We finally reach Zhongla and overnight stay in lodge.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerAfter a cozy breakfast with exposes to a dramatic panorama of the spectacular snow capped peaks we traverse high pastureland before we reach. We reach Lobuche normally by lunch time. After lunch we walk west side of Khumbu Glacier and pass the maraine on the way to Gorakshep.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerToday we do Legendary Everest Base Exploration. It is a draining scramble over an ever-changing path up along the west edge and across the Khumbu Glacier, starting at the north end of the sandpit at Gorakshep. The base camp is a colorful village of tents and all the activities. We shall have a group photo at the flag of the base camp then make our return journey retracing the route we took before.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerEarly morning ascent to Kalapathar with a head torch. The trail is difficult to follow in dark but gets rewarding views from the summit of Kalapathar 5550m. After sufficient shots of dramatic mountains we descend down to our lodge and take breakfast before continuing to Lobuche for overnight stay. Afternoon free.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerWe cross the Khumbu glacier. The glacier at this point is very slow moving, covered with the rubble and moraine debris and a good trail across. We then climb towards Kongmala (5535 m). The climb to the pass is steep, at first following a trail on a grassy hillside then on a good path which meanders its way up to the top of a scree slope. From the scree the summit comes into view but we have nearly 1 hr more level now over boulders and scree to reach the prayer flags which stretches across from carn to carin. It will take a total of 3 hrs or so from the glacier to the summit of the pass to be rewarded with a great view, with a tip of Everest and the fantastic 8 miles long Lhotse-Nuptse wall. The panorama includes Gaurishanker, Makalu, Choyo, Pumori and many peaks of Tibet. We pass a glacier pond and then the walk leads to the Imja Valley. Finally we reach Dingboche.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerWe descend the beautiful windy trail to Pangboche which is dominated by the towering Amadablam on our left. We then trek down to Tengboche. In the afternoon visit the Tengboche monastery the religious focal point of Everest Region.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerWe visit Tengboche Gumba if we had stayed in Debuche and descend down to Phunki Thenka 3250 then cross the Bhotekoshi to climb steeply to Sanasa 3600m. The trail is then a level path to Kyangjuma 3550m which is a great view point. We will stop here for lunch. Nice easy walk to Namche where we will spend the night.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerFrom Namche we shall retrace our footprints to Phakding then walk back to Lukla for the night. Tonight we bid farewell to our staff and porters who accompanied for this wonderful trek.
Overnight: Lodge Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerVery early breakfast and all kit ready for transfer to the airport for weighing and loading on the airport. We catch a flight to Ktm.
Overnight: Hotel Meal: BreakfastThis is an important day in case of delay to the flights from Lukla. If we do not have delay this is an opportunity to explore the fascinating city which includes sightseeing of Monkey Temple and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Lunch in Kathmandu kitchen. Free time and shopping in Thamel at the evening. Farewell dinner.
