Overview
Itinerary
On arrival in Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by our staff from Himalayan Envpro Treks. After formal greetings you will be transferred to your pre-booked hotel. Then you will be briefed about your trip. You’ll have rest of the day at leisure. You will also be issued duffel bags, down jackets and sleeping bags following a short briefing and introduction to our trek staff. At the evening there will be a welcome dinner.
Overnight: Hotel Meal: DinnerToday we will have some briefings and discussions about the trek. You will also meet your trekking guide and other crews. We will also discuss the trekking and accessories That you will need. We can help you to get some travel accessories if you need them. (You can purchase or rent them in trekking gear stores in and around Thamel area near your hotel). We will also apply for your trekking permits. You need conservation area permit and special permit for this trek.
Overnight: Hotel Meal: BreakfastWe fly to Nepalgunj by Yeti Airlines. On arrival we are met by the Hotel Staff from Hotel Batika. The hot and humid weather of Nepalgunj make us feel very thirsty. On arrival at the hotel we settle in the rooms on twin share basis then have lunch. At 3 pm we shall hire rickshaws and ride to the city sightseeing. It is a very interesting city with Hindus and Muslims. We then ride back to the hotel for the night. Dinner will be a buffet.
Overnight: Hotel Meal: Breakfast , DinnerVery early morning wake up call and transfer to the airport for an early morning flight over the flat lands then over the folds of mountains and deep valleys to Juphal. On landing there we have to go through heavy security checks. Our staff will assist us to carry our luggage to the lodge where lunch and porterage preparation will take place. Ahead of spreads the deep gorge valley of Thuli Bheri and the mountain flank is green with maize cornfield and wall nut trees. After lunch we descend through the terraced fields and in ten minutes arrive at a big village of clustered houses with various large flags fluttering on them. Further descents diagonally take us the left bank of the Thuli Bheri. The trail from here is all along the left bank with soaring mountainside on both sides to the army gate and the confluence of the Slugged River and the Barbung Khola. We go through a huge gate of welcome and nice easy walk to Dunai. On the whole it is a very easy walk of three to four hours.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerThe walk is along the southern bank of the Barbung Khola until the SaliKhola and we cross by suspension bridge to the northern bank. Green pastures and with thin pine trees which are seen on both sides is ideal for animal grazing. Nice easy walk to the Rishi Khola for lunch. The train again after the lunch is along the northern bank of the Barbung Khola to a small village of with four or five tea shops for a short rest then descend to the suspension bridge and walk for a short distance and we arrive at the campsite. Tarakot village is seen from the campsite perched high on the hillside.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerNice easy walk through the millet field first then through buckwheat fields until the Yalakot Chhu then along the southern bank of the Barbung Khola. The trail is flat with occasional small ups and downs to reach Khani Gaun and cross the Barbung Khola and enter the Tarap Valley. We shall have lunch at Khani Gaun and uphill for nearly 1 and a half hour then nice easy trail to Lahini in another hour.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerLahini is a perfect campsite more like a garden by the roaring Tarap Khola. A short walk from the camp, suddenly we face the uphill climb. It is an unforgiving route which goes on and on, sometimes on stone stairways, sometimes on a twisting bare-earth trail that climbs ever higher above the river. Sometimes the trail is a little exposed. In places it has flat stones placed upon tree trunks fitted to the sheer cliff face. Rounding various spurs we reach a high point of 3700m and from here we gently descend to tributary river from the left and there is a tented tea shop. Shortly after this we cross the Tarap Khola to the east bank. The valley is very narrow here which soon opens a bit. In about half an hour we come to a suspension bridge and a few teahouses. We cross the river by the suspension bridge and have lunch on the west bank. After lunch nice easy walk all the way to Naurpani. High mountain flanks are seen colouful with pink flowers. A short gentle uphill brings us to a lovely meadow by the river with a huge cave. This is Sim Odar our campsite of the day.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerShortly after we leave Sim Odar we cross the river by a suspension bridge to the east bank. Here the gorge walls are even closer than before and after 15 minutes we recross the river by a foot bridge to the west bank. We trek along this flat trail on the west bank and come to a very narrow gorge with huge overhanging and in about five minutes we cross the river to the east bank. Here a picturesque vista opens and we see the trail climb to a high ridge with a lone chorten straddling the top. Descend from the pass down to the river and cross it by the suspension bridge to the west bank and reach Serkum with a huge tented tea shop by a tributary river called Sishul Khola. About half an hour walk on the rolling bank, takes us to Kamo Kharka by the river for lunch stop. From Kamo Kharka, a short walk takes us to the confluence of the Lang Khola from the east and the Tarap Khola from the north. Cross by the bridge and follow the Tarap Khola, from here the flat-bottomed river valley begins to open. In about 2 hours the Dho are appears ahead of us with its chortens. On arrival we camp at the riverbank with huge meadow.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerDho is the first real Tibetan style village seen on this train. During trekking season from August to September the whole are is covered with barley and buckwheat. Also in August yarsa gompa traders from Tibet and Nepal meet here. We visit both bonpo gompas and Sakyamuni gompas here.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerThe morning's walk is along the Tarap Khola through elongated Tokyu Village. From the village gently climb up the huge pastureland to a stream from the left and we shall have the lunch here. After lunch we shall cross the wide glacial stream to the bottom of the Numala climb. The first part is steep uphill along the grass lad then when we reach the spur up along the gentle to a huge plateau of grassland at 4680m and camp here. Some of our staff will be looking for yarsa gompa, a tiny mushroom that grows on the head of caterpillar which a strong aphrodisiac herb. (You can buy good ones in Dho – each insect costs Rs 120 and you should buy about 40 to rejuvenate yourselves!!)
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerA nice gentle uphill leads to an easy path in about half an hour, flat walk until we reach a glacial khola and begin steep climb along the scree. We shall reach Numala 5127m, a broad saddle marked by a pile of stones festooned with prayer flags, in 3 hours from the camp. A vista of majestic snow peaks is the reward. Descent on the western side follows an obvious but later becomes obliterated by the Chudha Chu river headwaters. Descend all the way, the trail improves as we go further down with magnificent views and where you meet a wide trail leading west we follow the trail to the east and round a spur to reach the river bank of Poyon Khola, an idyllic campsite.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerIt is steep uphill after crossing the Poyon Khola then easy section followed by a climb to the ridgeline. Then the trail to Bagala is easy. There are several cairns and prayer flags. Then descend to a picturesque valley of Sanu Bheri with numerous green pasturelands with low junipers.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerIt is a magnificent walk with wonderful views in every step of the way. You will certainly feel that you are walking in Switzerland because it is like the Bregalia Alps. Nice gentle walk above the Sanu Bheri River ends and we climb a bit and reach a meadowland bordered by juniper trees and blue pine. From a part of the route suddenly gives a view onto the Waterfall of by the river from the Phoksumdo Lake. In a short while we shall be at Ringmo Village, the village by the lake. We shall cross the river, the Suligad and enter Ringmo then to the camp. Exploration and rest after the lunch.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerToday will be a well deserved rest day for acclimatization at Phoksundo Lake. During the day we can embark on a short hike to the village of Ringmo and it’s Tibetan Buddhist Monastery. During our short walks, we also get a chance to get acquainted with the local culture. The Dolpo people wear homespun clothing that is sometimes dyed a maroon color and they favor Tibetan-style somba or dhocha (boots with upturned toes) for foot wear. Both men and women often wear religious amulets and strings of coral, amber and turquoise.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerWe walk through the village and exit by the south gate and walk in the beautiful Suligad valley. Long day but is a great walk. You can buy beer in the shop here at the camp.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerToday is another great walk going through a few villages and woodland. Final section along the northern bank of the Barbung Khola.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerWe retrace our footsteps to Juphal. Lunch stop will be at Kala Gaura by the Thuli Bheri. From here, after lunch we shall begin our climb to Juphal. In the evening, there will be a farewell party. Tip to the porters and company Staff.
Overnight: Camping Meal: Breakfast , Lunch , DinnerVery early in the morning be ready for the security checks. We then fly from Juphal to Nepalgunj, sad to leave the great area. The memory of our trek in Dolpo will last a lifetime. On arrival at Nepalgunj, we shall head to Batika hotel for lunch return for the flight to Kathmandu. In case the flight is soon after our arrival, we then board the plane to Kathmandu on arrival. Drive to Hotel as arranged.
Overnight: Hotel Meal: Breakfast , LunchAfter breakfast we depart from our hotel to visit 1) Swayambhu Stupa , known as monkey temple because of monkeys in abundance. 2) Patan visit includes Pim Bahal, Golden Temple, Kumbheswar (Pashupatinath in Patan), Banglamukhi ( consort of lord Shiva), Patan Durbar Square with incredible wood carvings of various temples and the palace and finally visit the living goddess. 3) We then drive to Baudhanath the largest stupa in the world and have lunch in a roof top café. In the evening, free time for shopping around the Thamel. There will be a farewell dinner where we shall enjoy Nepali cuisine and cultural show.
