Drive to Pokhara and overnight stay in Big Pillow Inn Hotel. Free to explore Lakeside Pokhara.

Drive to Darbang (4 to 5 hours). Your porters and kitchen staff will already have arrived at Dharapani and will have set up your tents. From Darbang we begin our walk. Cross the bridge over Myagdi Khola and walk on a level trail to Phedi. Slowly ascend switch-back for about 30 minutes to the top of a hill. Beautiful views of Dhaulagiri I, II, III, IV and V on a clear day. Trek on gently uphill trail to Dharapani.

After breakfast we climb slowly through terraced rice-fields, first to the large village of Takam and then to Sibang which will take about 2 to 3 hours. The village has about 100 houses. The land here is fertile and is evident from the terraced rice-fields that extend all the way to the river below. From Sibang it is about 2 to 3 hours walk to reach our camp. We climb gently to the ridge and descend to the stream. After crossing the suspension bridge, we climb gently for 60 to 90 minutes to the large Magar village of Muri. On the trail, we get our first chance to appreciate the deep valleys.

From Muri, we descend steeply through terraced fields to the Muri Khola. We cross the bridge and ascend steeply to the ridge. We descend through temporary cattle sheds to the village of Juge pani for lunch (2 to 3 hours). After lunch we climb steeply for about an hour. The trail is now high above the river valley, etched along the cliff. In any case, the trail is at least 5 feet wide at the narrowest sections. After an hour or so, we will arrive at the smaller village of Boghara.

The Myagdi valley is normally wet therefore the vegetation is lush sub-tropical forest. All trekkers have to take care of the slippery tree roots. From Boghara the trail follows the west bank of the Myagdi Khola through an undulating trail in forest. Look up to the cliffs high above the trail there are large bee’s nests where villagers harvest honey in November and March. We stop for lunch at Lipshe at 2,080m then afterwards we continue walking in beautiful forest until we get to a clearing in the forest at Dobang with several teahouses and campsite.

Today we continue our walk through dense, lush vegetation of ferns, bamboo and rhododendrons. We cross from the west bank to the east bank of the Myagdi Khola on a new bridge. Our camp is at Sallaghari ( Pine Forest), at a clearing in the forest.

Today's walk is relatively short. Immediately after leaving the camp, we cross a small stream by a foot bridge then begins the walk through a beautiful woodland with pine trees, rhododendron and birch trees. After two hours we arrive at the end of the tree line and our walk will be through bamboo stands then azalea. After an hour we arrive at the grassy pastureland and the campsite at Italian Camp will come in view. High above the camp is the impressive west face of Dhaulagiri with Tsaurabong Peak visible on the other of the valley. After lunch we shall have about 2 hours hike above the camp.

Today is our rest and acclimatization day. We hike about 300m above the camp and return in 3 hours just in time for lunch.

As you climb slowly from the Italian Base Camp, we pass by several memorials for climbers that have perished on Dhaulagiri. They include three Chinese who fell to their death in the Spring of 2010. We descend carefully into the moraine. We may have to fix a rope at this steep descent. We cross the small glacier then climb steeply for about 30 minutes and 10 minute on the flat grassy ground to the Swiss Base Camp where there is a single hut and we will stop here for soup. The views are phenomenal and photogenic. From the Swiss Camp we trek on the moraine for one hour then on the glacier for two hours and arrive at the Japanese Camp on the glacier itself. It is a desolate but very dramatic spot.

We start early in the shadow of Dhaulagiri ascending through the glacier. The walk up is phenomenal again. On the right hand side, the main peak of Dhaulagiri, that is just massive, dominates the entire way. The wall is full of icefalls and glaciers and is absolutely stunning. We ascend up the glacier to 4700m to the base camp. From the base camp looking south we will be able to see Dhaulagiri II. Many glaciers descend from the ice fields above all around us. The landscape is very rugged and dramatic made by centuries of glacial action. This is by any comparison one of the best treks in Nepal. The views and the technical challenge make it absolutely first class.

Explore. You are free to walk closer to the Dhaulagiri massif and the glacier. It goes without saying that you should be careful.

Today is a gruelling day involving walking up to 6 hours at high altitude.We walk up a side glacier leading to the French Pass. The Pass is a very long way away although we can see it in the distance. We walk up a huge moraine and continue on its crest to the slope leading to the French Pass (5360m/17,600ft.). The area is remote and desolate with great views all round. It is a high altitude desert: brown shale, very windy and barren. At the pass, there are several memorials dedicated to fallen climbers. The view of Dhaulagiri from here is very impressive. the entire mountain stands desolate towering above the valley. Looking the other way, the entire Hidden Valley is spread before us. It is barren and desolate. No trees and several peaks – Mukut Himal, Dhampus Peak, Hongde Peak etc are seen in the distance. Descend to the valley floor and continue to camp.

Thapa Peak climbing is known as Dhampus Peak situated northeast of Dhaulagiri I. It is a trouble –free Himalaya. The climbers will leave the camp at 0230 hours The route ascends on moderate snow slopes and scree along a ridge to the top and it takes 5 hours to reach the summit. The view is sensational with views to Dhaulagiri, Annapurnas and into Mustang. The climbers will be at the Pass by 1200 hours if the weather is clear. Those not climbing will leave with the staff to the camp at the normal trek time. Tonight the camp is planned to be at Kalopani. From Dhaulagiri to Marpha the itinerary can be re- arranged which depends on the fitness and the weather condition. Day 13 French Pass, Day 14 Thapa Peak Base Camp, Day 15 Summit and then to Thapa Peak BC Day 16 Down to Marpha.

Weather permitting, today could be one of the most picturesque days. (This section is notoriously popular for whiteouts and strong winds). The Dhaulagiri peak is to the South West, Annapurna, Nilgiri to the East, the Kingdom of Mustang in the distant to the North and the deep Kali Gandaki valley lay below us. Most of the trail is level or a gradual descent until near Yak Kharka.

Today we again have a steep descent into Marpha, famous for apple and apricot brandies, where we enjoy lunch. After lunch we resume walk on to Jomsom.

Here it is possible to enjoy the famous hot springs. It is possible to fly from Jomsom to Pokhara ( as the reliability of flights are dodgy, we do not include our flights in cost.)

After breakfast we drive towards Pokhara and stay in our booked hotel.

Today we leave hotel approximately 2 hours prior to our flight and then fly to Kathmandu.

Today is free time for those who have been to Nepal before to explore and do shopping in Thamel. Sightseeing will be arranged for those who would like to join a sightseeing tour of Swayambhu, Patan and Baudhanath. In the Evening there will be farewell party in a Nepali restaurant with Nepali cultural show.

Transfer to Tribhuwan airport for onward journey.
